History and Mission

  1970       

  The Evening Division, Department of Library Science was established on August 1, 1970 by WEI, CIN-YI with Day division at the same time.

  1991-1996

  The original time limit for degree was five years, but the time limit for degree of students who entered the Evening Division, Department of Library Science from 1991 to 1996 reduced to four years.

  1992

  Department of Library Science renamed “Department of Library & Information Science”.

  1997

  When the Evening Division was transformed into Division of the bachelor program of extension education from 1997, the time limit for degree returned to five years.

  1999

  The class location moved from Tonelli Hall to School of Continuing Education

  2001

  The original time limit for degree reduced to four years.

  2010

  The class location moved from School of Continuing Education to Liberal Enlightenment Hall.

 

The Aim of Teaching

  The aim of teaching is to educate students with the knowledge and capability of LIS theory and practice, expecting our student's computer ability can be as good as IM students or CSIE students, so they can improve libraries' ability of collecting, arranging, organizing, storing, and retrieving human knowledge information transmission service by using their professional skill and knowledge, and this is the goal of “Library science do noumenon, information science do use”.

 

Specializations of the Faculty

  1. The only school that established evening division of LIS in Taiwan.

  2. More chance to work in library or library industry.

  3. Emphasis both theory and practice.

  4. Including the course of library science and information science.

  5. Five-Year BLIS-MLIS Program.
